There were shore batteries here at Everet Point during the war of 1812 and it engaged a fleet of American invaders on November 11, 1812. The Americans severely damaged the unarmed Simcoe off Amherst island and it was run aground about 200 m. east of this spot, in 9 feet of water. The Royal Artillery's 6 pdr. cannon drove off the American invaders from this point. The Simcoe was salvaged and Canada was saved. by Steve Manders
