Ontario and Quebec were created here in 1791 by the Constitutional Act. They were called Upper and Lower Canada at the time and it provided representative govt. St.Georges church occupied this site then, it is one block west now, just visible on the left. The counties of Ontario were created here (in the church) in July 8 1792, led by John G. Simcoe. There were about 50 houses in Kingston then. The British Whig building on the site was built in 1895, it is Canada's oldest daily newspa by Steve Manders
