The Kingston, Portsmouth and Cataraqui St. Electric Railway Co. ran street cars along the grassy area past the penitentiary to Portsmouth Ave and the Rockwood Asylum from 1893 to 1930, and Lake Ontario Park in the summer. The park was owned by the railway then. Rides were 5 cents each, children one cent in 1914. The original horse drawn cars stopped at the top of this hill from 1877 to 1893. The City boundary was at Pembroke St. in 1878. by Steve Manders
Fort Frederick canon, and Cedar Island martello tower (1843) the Cathcart Redoubt. To my left is Navy Bay, it held a major ship building industry in the 1800's, and had to be well defended from the Americans. They had attacked Kingston on Nov. 10 1812 heavily damaging the large ship, the Royal George, the Simcoe was sunk just west of Kingston, a ship was burned at Bath. They attacked Gananoque east of here on Sept. 21 1812 , burning a building and pillaging. by Steve Manders

Parts of Dog Lake are drowned land from the construction of the Rideau Canal in 1832. Many of these tree stumps are just below the surface and still can ruin a boat. by Steve Manders
CP rail uses the lower track, CN rail uses the upper track. The CP Brignall station and the CN Blackstone stations were both here years ago. They appear to meet in the satellite photo, but are not actually connected. However, it would have been possible for passengers to change trains to access other destinations. by Steve Manders
