【居庸关】是万里长城上最负盛名的雄关之一，在明代碑记中就称其为“天下第一雄关”。居庸关位于北京西北约60公里，南俯京师，北拒塞外，自古即为北京西北的重要屏障。居庸关两侧高山耸立，中间一条峡谷，纵深约40里，俗称“关沟”。居庸关关城即设于沟的正中。居庸之名，始于春秋战国时期，《吕氏春秋》中有“天下九塞，居庸其一”的记载。居庸设关始于汉代，但只是居庸县和军都县两县之间的关口，还不是长城上的关口。据长城专家考证，居庸关修筑长城是自北魏才开始的，到北齐天保六年（公元555年）自幽州北的夏口（今南口）至恒州（今山西大同）修了长900多里的长城，后来又从这里往东修至山海关。这时居庸关才和长城有了联系，成为长城上的一处重要关口。居庸关曾屡易其名，三国时称西关，魏时称军都关，北齐改称纳款关，唐朝称蓟门关、军都关、居庸关。辽、金、元、明、清各代都称居庸关。 by 中国人最伟大
