飞英塔雄姿----此塔坐落在湖州市区内，是一座奇特的“塔中塔”。该塔原在飞英寺（已毁）西侧舍利塔院内，内塔创建于唐中和四年（884年），现存石塔重建于南宋绍兴年间（1131-1163年）；外塔创建于北宋开宝年间（968-976年），南宋端平年间（1234-1237年）重建。南宋绍兴二十年(1150)，塔遭雷击而焚于火， 因“舍利无恙”，旋即重修，至今石塔中仍有“绍兴二十四年”等题记。外塔亦于南宋端平初(1234)“葺而新之”。元、明、清三代多次修缮。1929年，因年久失修，以致塔顶倒塌。1961年4月，浙江省人民委员会公布飞英塔为省重点文物保护单位。1982年，该塔列为浙江省重点文物维修单位，维修工程在1986年底竣工。1988年1月，国务院公布飞英塔为全国名塔之一、全国重点文物保护单位。 by 江上清风1961
