Woody Point Heritage District, The town was settled in 1800 but much of it burned down in 1922 destroying the cramped water front buildings. What you find now was built after 1922. by Steve Manders
This hotel was Charles Dickens approved on May 7, 1842. It was built in 1809 and was called Daley's Hotel then, later the Brigish American Hotel. He found it comfortable but found the rest of Kingston in very poor shape after a huge fire and exploding gun powder in 1840. Dickens was impressed with the Navy Dock Yards, Kingston Penitentiary and Fort Henry as are tourists today. The ferry ride from Toronto was $2 if you slept on deck, $5 to sleep inside. by Steve Manders
Madawaska River, May 2, a week after peak spring run off. In the days of log drives, 3 ft. diameter pine logs ( a m. or more) would jam up here, a thousand other logs would quickly pile up behind it. Loggers had to untangle it by hand. Often the whole mess started running at once. There was no compensation for injuries or death. They lived on beans, salt pork, bread, no baths all winter. Forty men lived on one bunk house, with one big open fire. Visit the logging museum in the park. by Steve Manders

Jone's Falls on the Rideau Canal. John Redpath a stone mason, was given the contract to build the locks here in 1827. He employed 200 men, was a fair employer, but malaria killed many, and made John ill for the rest of his life. He went on to build the Redpath Sugar Company, a shipping company, sat on the Montreal City Council, Board of works, and donated buildings to McGill University. by Steve Manders
Hog River and Port Hope, Lindsay and Beaverton Railway bridge, (PHL&B) opened in 1857, became the Midland Railway (MR) in 1869, controlled by the Grand Trunk (GT) in 1884 and taken over by CN. The last passenger was in 1951, and was shut down in the 1970's. It is now the Tay Shore Trail. by Steve Manders
