The Kingston Portsmouth & Cataraqui St. Railway Co. ran horse drawn street cars along this berm from 1877 to 1993. It was electrified in 1893. Their rolling stock of 25 cars was lost in a fire in 1930. This line ran from Princess St. along King, up Barrie, west on Union, south on Ellerbeck and west on King to the Rockwood Asylum across from St.Lawrence College. It also ran to Lake Ontario Park in summer which was owned by the railway then. Adult fare was 5 cents, children 1 cent in 1914. Hydro was $1.20 / kWh in 1926.

Rock was dumped along side the CNoR railway subsequent to it being built. It seems that the high cliff on the west side was unstable and a lot of rock was removed and piled here. The railway bed can be seen on the left, now the Cataraqui Trail. by Steve Manders
