Kingston Post Office built in 1856 to 1859 in British classical style. There was no phone, radio, TV or internet then. Reliable mail delivery was absolutely critical. The Grand Trunk rail way had just opened up between Montreal and Toronto in 1856 for faster mail delivery. Until then, steam ships transported the mail when the lake was not frozen, and stage coachs were used in the winter, weather and roads permitting. A new public canoe and kayak boat dock on Landon Bay is put to the test. It works well. This provided a delightful short and sheltered paddle to a water fall. The look-out at the on the rocky ridge can be seen on the left. Looking NW. by Steve Manders

Hog River and Port Hope, Lindsay and Beaverton Railway bridge, (PHL&B) opened in 1857, became the Midland Railway (MR) in 1869, controlled by the Grand Trunk (GT) in 1884 and taken over by CN. The last passenger was in 1951, and was shut down in the 1970's. It is now the Tay Shore Trail. by Steve Manders

Open house at the bird banding station. Come in mid May when there are light winds from the south the night before, not when the winds are out of the north. Song birds migrate at night, and won't migrate against head winds. by Steve Manders
