Remnants of the old ferry dock to transport trains across the river to Ogdensburg NY and the railway there. It was built for the Bytown and Prescott Railway (B&P) in 1854, renamed the Ottawa and Prescott Railway (O&P) in 1855 and St.Lawrence and Ottawa Rw (St.L&O) in 1867. The prime purpose was to get an ice free sea port in Boston, when Montreal froze up. The ferries could carry 6 rail cars in 1860's, 15 in 1908, 21 in 1930 on 3 tracks.
