A meeting of three titans! The CP and CN trans-continental railways almost meet here and both cross the former Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway (OA&PS) railway bed, now the Rose Point Recreational Trail. The OA&PS railway was the bussiest railway in the world in 1910 with a freight train every 20 minutes from its docks on Georgian Bay to Montreal. by Steve Manders
Cattle walk on the old Ottawa Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway (OA&PS) built in 1892 to 1897 to haul lumber out of Algonquin P.P.. The lumber is a renewable resource, yet the supply is almost gone. Oil is not renewable. Some day, our highways will look like this. It also connected to Depot Harbour near Parry Sound, and saved 800 km. of shipping to Montreal by avoiding Niagara. The Trent Canal is drained of water every fall, to better absorb spring melt waters without flooding. All the dams along the water way must work in unison to avoid flooding one area. This dam raised the level of Rice Lake for the Trent Canal. by Steve Manders

This is the original Jone's Falls Road bridge. The one lane road went up the hill to the locks behind me, it took a hard left turn and crossed on a small swing bridge at the second lock up, blocking boat traffic. It was replaced by the modern steel bridge a one km. to the north in 1974. It connected Kenney's Road with Lock Road. The swing bridge is gone, but it's base remains and clearly shows in the satellite photo. by Steve Manders
