It probably had running water which became available after 1850, but no hot water on tap. It was not insulated, it was heated expensive with wood, and lit with oil lamps.

Old Newfoundland Railway snow plow on the narrow gauge tracks begun here in 1881, completed in 1898, closed in 1988. It took 3,000 labourers a year to build 80 miles of tracks. Cataraqui Trail from Strathcona to Smith Falls. Built on the railway bed of the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) built in 1912 to 1914 to connect Toronto to Ottawa via Napanee and Smith Falls. The last train was in 1979. The right of way was owned by CN at the time, they donated to the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority in 1997. Judging from the tracks in the gravel, some people have been driving the route which is not allowed for motorized vehicles. by Steve Manders
